Alright. Here's a brief update on last week's happenings. (Again, sorry for no background info. I will write it as soon as I have time.)
Last week was filled with Valentine's Day events. I now understand why this commercial, Capitalist holiday is so emphasized-- because it brings in good mula.
SO, there was Candy Grams. A few people stayed at school on our half day (the things we do for the community...) and chaotically packaged all the candy grams. We stapled all the letters to lollipops, distributed them into different categories and made sure everyone received one.
We quickly broke even, selling each lollipop at $1. Success!
The dance- after all the fretting it turned out really nicely. Mostly La Paz students attended but there were a few kids from other schools (hooray!). Everyone was dancing and having a blast. There were no major issues and it all went rather well. But we didn't take that many pictures, too busy dancing...
The revenue of both events was good and most importantly everyone enjoyed...So much actually, that we're planning a dance for next month!
As for Abriendo Mentes there was a moment where I was very focused on SSS and Natalie with another thing that it actually worked out pretty well, giving us both time. Now, we're back. Gina, this other volunteer collected more recipes and I'm supposed to translate them in English.
"What is time" you ask?
I have no idea.
All I know is that I've been really, really tired and although I would love to focus so much more on these actually productive activities I'm stuck in school from 8-3. Yay!
I'll manage. I'm learning time management, I guess. Very valuable I hear. Let's see if I actually learn it.
Something also very important to recognize about my specific projects are that they never end. There will always be new ideas and things to pursue. The "goal" I guess would just to create sustainability and enforce service in general, there will always be a need. I think this aspect really adds to the non-stop-ness of these projects.
Questions or Comments? BELOW, Amigos.
I will soon post more. more. more. more. That's all it ever is anyway. MORE.
Good night before I explode in my writing.
Sleep well, Earthlings.

Bianca, I am so glad to hear that the dance and the candy grams earned money for SSS. That is great! The dance sounds like a success. What was the day like BEFORE the dance. What did you do? Who did you work with and did you have any last minute crisis? Was it at all stressful? When is the dance next month? It must have been really amazing to plan another one. What was the feedback you received? What was the best part and what could have been improved upon?
ReplyDeleteI love that you talk about these activities and their timelessness. It is true that there will always be ideas to discuss and the fact that you are willing to implement them is awesome. How are you fitting all these things in? How do you go about managing your time? What do you put first, second and third? School does seem to get in the way of your giving, but what are you getting out of school?
I enjoyed reading about everything from snowy Colorado but I have so many questions for you. I am looking forward to seeing you next week! Enjoy your weekend.
The day before the dance was simply adrenaline filled. SSS doesn't really ever stress out which is really nice, we just get everything done and if something doesn't work we quickly work to find a solution. It's REALLY helpful that everyone has this trait. It wasn't stressful at all, at 4pm the day of the dance the decoration was terrible but we knew we would get it all done. (Decoration was amazing, I'll show you pictures.) Speaking of pictures we need to take more next time. Also, next time we're working on playing half the price to rent for the space and we now know where to invest our money.
DeleteI don't know how I fit it all in, I just do. Honestly, school is easy for me so I spend minimal time on hw and work and manage to focus on other things. But the fact that it's easy also make a lot of time in school wasted where I could be doing other things. I prioritize whatever event is coming up sooner or demands more attention. For example in SSS this time Camila managed practically all for the Candy Grams and I did the dance so it was really helpful being able to distribute the weight. We both helped each other of course.
